I had the opportunity to serve on a panel organized by the American River Parkway Foundation (ARPF) on August 4, 2021 to debut the premiere of “Parkway in Peril.” This professionally produced video was followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session moderated by Kellie DeMarco, former KCRA News anchor.
The goal of the August 4 community event was to share what is happening to the parkway and inform people of the extraordinary challenges that Sacramento County, ARPF and partnering agencies face to keep the parkway clean, safe and fire free. It also served as a call to action for all of us, especially elected leaders, to help support and preserve this valuable resource.
More than 5 million visitors annually enjoy the 23-mile “jewel of Sacramento.” Just this year, wildfire has scorched over 11 percent of the American River Parkway’s 4800 acres. Additional concerns include water contamination, garbage, and visitor safety.
Panel members included myself, County District 3 Supervisor Rich Desmond, Regional Parks Director Liz Bellas, representatives from PG&E and fire. Nearly 250 concerned residents were in attendance.
Please watch the video and share. Thank you!
