Protecting Parks From Wildfires

In 2014,  wildfires have already destroyed 300 acres of park lands along the American River. The environmental impacts will take decades to recover. On August 26, the Board of Supervisors adopted two urgency ordinances limiting the use of barbecue cookers and cigarette smoking except in designated areas in County parks. With the changes adopted, our regional parks – especially the American River Parkway – will be better protected from wild land fires, and taxpayers will be better protected from the costs of fighting those fires.
