County supervisors and commissioners from across the country converged on Clark County, Nevada July 12 – 15, 2019 for the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Annual Conference. This regular convening is the one during which new executive leadership for the organization is sworn and seated to serve for the upcoming year. It is also the time during which the newly seated NACo President announces his/her appointments to serve in leadership roles on various subject-matter-specific committees. One such committee is the “Health Policy Steering Committee.” The Health Policy Steering Committee is charged to address “All matters pertaining to public health and healthy communities, including disease and injury prevention and health promotion, health disparities reduction, financing and delivering health care, including services for the uninsured, underinsured, and medically indigent, Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, behavioral health services, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and services for persons with developmental disabilities.”
I’m humbled and honored that newly-seated NACo President, Douglas County Nebraska Commissioner Mary Ann Borgeson, appointed me to chair the NACo Health Policy Steering Committee for the 2019/20 term. I look forward to serving in this new role and working with my fellow supervisors/commissioners from across the nation, and I’m grateful for the confidence President Borgeson has placed in me.
